Meta Commits Another $1.5B to AI: Will Stock Boom or Bust?
Meta Platforms (META) has announced a $1.5 billion investment in a new data center in El Paso, Texas, marking its third such facility in the state and 29th globally. The center, expected to launch in 2028, will scale to 1 gigawatt—enough to power a city the size of San Francisco for a day. Meta has already poured over $10 billion into Texas and employs more than 2,500 people there.
Jon Barela, CEO of the Borderplex Alliance, likened Meta to "the fastest gazelle in the industry," suggesting the MOVE could attract further data center investments to the region. Analysts project Meta's Q3 2025 earnings at $6.74 per share, an 11.8% year-over-year increase, bolstering its position as a top AI sector pick.
